how Do You Plan to vote?

Early In-Person

Step 1: Request your ballot ASAP HERE

  • You must first be registered to vote

Step 2: Fill out your ballot

Your ballot contains two envelopes: (1) A secrecy envelope and (2) A return envelope  

  • Step 1: Vote by completely filling in the circles on the ballot using either blue or black ink
  • Step 2: Once filled out, put your filled-out ballot into the secrecy envelope and seal
  • Step 3: Put your secrecy envelope into your return envelope
  • Step 4: Read and sign the oath
  • Step 5: Your ballot is ready to send

  • Mail it in: Stamp and use the pre-addressed envelope mail in your ballot

What type of ID DO i NEED?

Acceptable ID for Mail-in Voting

To apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot, you will need proof of identification. Voters can use one of the following options:

OPTION 1

Include the ID number from one of these:

  • Current and valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • PennDOT photo ID card

OPTION 2

  • If you don’t have one of the documents listed under option 1, you can include the last 4 digits of your social security number.

OPTION 3

If you don’t have any of the documents listed in options 1 or 2, you can provide a photocopy of one of the following IDs. The photocopy must show name, a photo, and an expiration date that is current.

  • U.S. Passport  
  • U.S. Military ID (active duty and retired military ID may designate an expiration date that is indefinite) Military dependents' ID must contain a current expiration date
  • Employee photo identification issued by Federal, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania County, or Pennsylvania Municipal government
  • Photo identification issued by an accredited Pennsylvania public or private institution of higher learning.  
  • Photo identification issued by a Pennsylvania care facility, including long-term care facilities, assisted living residences, and personal care homes
Acceptable ID for In-Person Voting

Unless you are a first-time voter, you are not required to show ID when voting unless indicated by the poll book.

For First Time Voters, you must show proof of identification at the polls. You can show either photo identification or non-photo identification:

Forms of Photo Identification:

  • Pennsylvania driver’s license or Penn DOT ID card
  • ID issued by any Commonwealth agency
  • ID issued by the U.S. Government
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. Armed Forces ID
  • Student ID
  • Employee ID

Non-photo Identification that includes your name and address:

  • Confirmation issued by the County Voter Registration Office
  • Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
  • Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
  • Firearm permit
  • Current utility bill
  • Current bank statement
  • Current paycheck
  • Government paycheck
